authorities and volunteers will be back out tomorrow morning searching a landfill for signs of fred frederick salas. he hasn't been seen his his father was found beaten to death a week ago. today authorities said the keller canyon landfill. they are focusing on an acre of trash using eyes, and a dog and equipment. they picked that because it gets trash from the north shore business park in hercul es. police found a car there owned by one of the two women found dead in vallejo. it's parts of a murder spree that ended with five dead, one missing one man left to answer questions. that man, charles rittenhouse found living in the home with the body of one woman inside and the body of another in the backyard. he was arrested for possession of explosives and had his first

court appearance today. simon perez was there. >> possessions of ingredients to make a device. >> reporter: he stood silent before a judge. the she said he had no bad motives november the depleted uranium. he remains in jail on charges of possession explosive devices. >> i don't think he has done anything wrong. he is a victim. >> reporter: the attorney excluded him from having anything to do with the deaths of the two women found at his house. his wife and her friend. >> he had been there the night before and on tuesday he went to work and i can tell through were no bodies monday night. i believe they were just put there that day, tuesday the day of his arrest. >> reporter: remember rita, his wife, was last seen august 25th and he didn't report her

missing until the following sunday. >> wait five-days to report her missing? >> you know he and his wife had different work schedules and it wasn't unusual to go days without seeing eacho. because of the fact that he would always take her car she would leave the car ate friend's house. >> reporter: the attorney suspects the man who lived with them off and on for years may have been responsible for the murders or it may have been another couple. >> a couple that had been living in their house for a while and apparently they were involved in criminal activities and at some point he demanded they leave the house and at that time one of the couple made a threat. >> reporter: vallejo police aren't buying the story. for one they say if someone dumped dead bodies in the house why didn't rittenhouse say anything? >> reporter: when did he call the police and say there are dead bodies in the house? >> he didn't. >> reporter: as far as the

other couple there has been plenty of time for that. >> i have never heard of anything regarding another couple. i have no idea who that couple is. this is the first i have heard of it. >> reporter: even though something strange did happen at his home in vallejo it's also true that the da doesn't have the evidence to prosecute him for the murders. right now the only charges he faces have to do with the explosives. of course the murder charges could come later. in vallejo, simon perez. >> also tonight a community is remembering two of the victims. don knapp is at a shopping center where they both worked. >> reporter: the victims have been names and photographs on television and newspapers. at this vigil this evening the lives behind the names became touchingly real. >> white ribbon in honor the people who lost their lives to the violence in vallejo. just praying for peace. >> reporter: two of those were

killed in the violence that's taken five and possibly six were well liked members of this community. >> honor of the people who died to violence and. >> she was my haircutter. >> reporter: the hairstylist and a security guard at a wells fargo. >> both have touched my life and a large number of people here i see they have touched your life as well. >> reporter: co workers, friends and neighbors held this vigil between the tobies. >> they are all friends. >> reporter: any thoughts on this? >> [inaudible] i hope they rest in peace. >> reporter: because many knew her by another name they were shocked to learn she was killed. >> i was shocked and that's why i wanted to come down today and give my respects because

thearchy was a beautiful person. >> reporter: police say the suspect kidnapped her as he left the salon and killed her in her car. a 73-year-old security guard was regarded as a grandfather figure. >> i was hoping that it wasn't him. i called my husband and i told him about it and i was very sad. >> reporter: there were lighter memories as well. >> i had my -- when i came back he said who you let cut your hair? who you let cut your hair? >> we love you and we will never forget you. >> reporter: sandra asked them to remember them not how they died but how they lived. a trust fund has been set up for the families at the wells fargo. >> yeah. don knapp. thank you. also tonight friends celebrated the life of a 13-year-old boy who was killed in oakland a week and a half ago.

the memorial was held at the school of urban missions bible college. he was buried earlier today. the teen was shot while walking his 15-year-old brother near 61st and bancroft. a pastor said he spent quite a bit of time with the christian youth fellowship and encouraged friends to join him. >> in the middle of his creativity and track and sports he still wanted to help other people be at a better place. >> reporter: and tonight there is a 15,000-dollar reward for information leading to an arrest in the case. >> tonight livermore police looking for a tina accused of beating an 89-year-old woman. this is the accept of the boy who police say is about 13 and called himself cameron. he said he was in the 7th grade. officers say he approached the victim as she walked on a path

tuesday. he said he wanted to show her something off the path and then authorities say he used an object to strike her in the head multiple times. he got away on a push scooter. she has been release from the hospital. the city of oakland is set to get a new pullly center. it'll be located in the 3,000 block of telegraph avenue. for some it makes sense because hundreds of parole's return to the area after being released and can get the rehabilitation they need. lindaee will tell us who opposes it. >> reporter: it is the designed to be a center where they are report to their agents and get help to get back into society. what's not to like in how about the location? oakland's north gate neighborhood is a long telegraph area and is working to improve its image. plans for a parole yeah

reporting center isn't getting a huge reception. >> sex offenders as i understand it. >> reporter: many are scared and angry. >> it's just a question of if you have a neighborhood that is already kind of economicly weak how will this affect it? a bakery across the street, couple medical facilities with people who are at risk and can we say that people will be safe? >> reporter: the center point rehab and treatment program wants to help parolee was education, job training drug counseling. >> we aren't importing them. the project only serves those from oakland. male and female. >> reporter: they are already there. >> yes. >> reporter: the managers say the people they want to help want to give up crime. >> the parolees, they start to take ownership of the program. people tend to not come around

and do crime in that area because they know there are people that are serious about trying to get their life together. >> reporter: the plan is to have it open all year serving between 80 to 100 a day. while everybody here agrees it's a great idea, just not in this neighborhood. tt gonzalez just opened a new restaurant a few doors down. >> concerned about thely interesting, panhandling. have you to understand a lot of them are coming out of jail and don't have money, don't have jobs. >> reporter: they are rules where they can't do that. >> so they say. >> reporter: center point has won approve alabi the planning commission. the neighborhood has ten days to file an appeal to the city council. going to be a tough one. >> people deserve another chance. >> reporter: they agree with that. >> not in my backyard. i understand. if it's no this its something else. all right. thank you. >> fire burned a pleasant hill home this evening.

flames and thick smoke went from the falls court home after the two alarm fire broke out around five. it reportedly started in the garage. we don't know how. took about half an hour for firefighters to get it under control. no injuries are reported no word on the damage it caused. the wreck of ismail plane that crashed in a lagoon was pulled out of the water. the bodies of two of the three people on board who were killed in the crash were still inside including decorated world war ii pilot and local business owner robert borman. it went down yesterday shortly after takeoff. the wreck will be moved in toy warehouse to be looked at by investigators. the names of the other victims haven't been released. >> the call that is always a possibility for the wife of a police officer. >> called me and said he was at the hospital and that he was okay, he was hit in the leg.

behalf of her husband. officer senate wife of a wounded police officer spoke today on behalf of her husband. todd young was shot last week trying to make an arrest. his family lass been at his side as he has had several surgeries. julia tells us how the family is coping. >> reporter: nicole young got the call from her husband, todd young. >> he called me and said he was at highland hospital and that he was okay, he was hit in the leg. >> reporter: then she heard this news. >> they didn't think he was going to make it off the operating table. my whole life turned upside down. one moment. >> reporter: from that moment on she has been by his side.

doctors have worked miracles around the clock to save him and the community has rallied more than expected donating blood. >> can't always predict the future but he is not out of the woods but he has made a lot of progress. rthe day the officer was shot in the groin by an oakland gang suspect now in custody other officers came to his rescue, rushing him to the hospital by patrol car. doctors say that is one of the reasons he is still alive. >> they are heros. i'm very proud of him for what he does. >> reporter: doctors say the officer has had several surgeries. he is still sedated and not able to talk. his wife said she talks to him on a daily basis giving this message to him. >> that i love him and i want to bring him home to our kids. he is strong.
